absence of boletes

This year I have found only Suillus species and a couple of Parasitic bolete. The high number of slugs certainly play their part but haven't found a single sign of B.edulis. Anybody having success with Ceps?

tricky

There is a lack of these about but there is a lock of a lot of different fungi which must be due to the weather we have had this year.I presume from you link and interest that the disappointment is because you eat them not for recording reason's I personally do not eat fungi my interest is in recording them and I do not think it should be encouraged as there are problems with over collecting in a few area's

Hi Tricky, generally I don't

Hi Tricky, generally I don't eat my finds(B.edulis,B.badius the exceptions)and share you position on exploiting our resources.
I have noticed last couple of years that whole areas having been stripped of edibles, a sign of comercial ventures.
I keep detailed records of my finds and do plan on sending info to MJ at ABFG and Paul Kirk at FRDBI when time allows :-)

Absence of Boletes

I'm no expert in the matter but have certainly noiced the lack of boletes in our normally good hunting ground at Harcourt Arboretum in Oxfordshire. On Sunday we bumped into bolete expect Alan Hills there who has put the dearth down to the very dry spring killing off the mycelium. We did, however, spot 3 Bay Boletes (photo online).
