Field vole (Microtus agrestis)
Description:

A nest was disturbed. After about 15 minutes the mother returned and carried away each of the young in turn.

Tail length?

Must have been amazing to watch.
The colour of the pelage certainly looks more like field vole (lacking the red tinge). Did you see the mother's tail to confirm that it was shorter than a bank vole's? (Baby has a very short tail but I don't know how 'in proportion' the tail is when they are born).

Yes, a short tail.

I presume that the mother had a place of safety already prepared and probably within a metre or so of the nest. It took less than 5 minutes for her to move all 3 young even with me standing over her with a camera.
