It would be useful to know why you have gone for splendidissimella.
The answer to that question is that this mine appeared most similar to that species as shown on the British Leafminer website! I was still in some doubt as I have little experience with identifying mines and wondered if a more experienced eye might give a more confident answer.
You have chosen a difficult plant on which build up experience. The mines of Stigmella species on Rubus are difficult and unless the larva is present then identification is a matter of probabilities. Have a look at the "notes" at the bottom of the right hand column of this page -
Your mine seems to tick some of the boxes for splendidissimella, but as for a firm id., I'm not sure.
Thanks Robert - that's fair enough! I'm still learning, and pointers in the right direction gratefully received, even if the answer is 'it's really tricky' - I will now know what to look for next time, and I learn best from trying things out!
