Doesn't look robust enough for the golden rods i know from the garden but does bear some similarity with Solidago virgaurea
It certainly is not as robust as the golden rods growing in other parts of the garden. Also it is branched and only growing to about a foot.
Hello Primula, Could it be one of the St John's Worts? My book doesnt really show any features that would give a positive id to a particular species but the obvious anthers and leaf shape suggest it might be one of these Hypericums.
