Description:

These weird fungi were near birch, sycamore and ash trees with lots of ivy around. They were dry to the touch and the undersides were covered in soil. About 8cm across. My book says they are common, but I've never seen them before.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

I'm not sure these are Collared Earthstars because I can't see the little saucer-like plate Collar) beneath the globes.

True, no collar - it just looked most like the picture in Phillips.
