One of a small number seen around the beaches and harbour at St Ives
No interactions present.
Looks like an adult to me, the grey speckles are part of its normal fresh winter plumage. The smart white of its summer plumage is gained in spring after a moult of the body feathers. A sub-adult herring gull would also have a trace of dark somewhere on the bill.
Many thanks for the feedback on both observations.
Title changed accordingly.
