Orange, growing near beech trees.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Deceivers are great little mushrooms. They are called deceivers because they change colour, going lighter as they dry out, but being a lovely orangy brown then moist. Look out for amethyst deceiver, which is a purple version and does the same thing.

Yes, I've found the amethyst ones in the same place. I've just been more dubious of the orange ones because there are a lot of orange fungi around. But I was almost sure the orange ones were deceivers.

yes they can be tricky

I thought I was pretty good at spotting deceivers, until I accidentally picked a small orange milkcap. Luckily the milk gave it away. Needless to say, I always triple check!
