could it be a Maple or Sycamore? Were there any mature trees of that type in the area?

Maybe sycamore, they can travel quite far from the tree. Very fast colonisers, growing quickly towards the light.

Maybe not

I don't think it's sycamore. At this stage the leaves normally droop more.
