Description:

This seemed a little too dark for a Songthrush, until I saw it in flight with the pale yellow underwing. Alarm call similar to a Blackbird but 'sharper'.

Female

Some female Blackbirds, especially older ones, get quite bright and spotty on the breast and can look superficially thrush-like. We are now approaching the period when a lot of continental birds come through, in October and November, and they sometimes exhibit features like pale fringes to body feathers and are often larger than our birds...essentially, Blackbirds are not always as plainly black/brown as we sometimes think.

The angle makes ageing this bird difficult, as you cannot see the greater coverts or shape of tail feather tips.
