Given the abundance of the Common Blue's food plants on the meadow, the number of adults observed seems quite low.

Estimating butterfly abundance is really difficult - so much depends on the air temperature. If it's overcast, windy or just a bit cooler than usual the butterflies will be there but going about their business hidden in the grass. I often wonder how far to believe the claims of many organisations during wet summers like 2008 that butterfly numbers have crashed. I suspect we just haven't seen them.
