what's the other side like?
It could take me a while finding an image of the other side or indeed finding the shell- that might be harder again but I will try......
I just cropped an image I took of a number of shells in 2010. Hopefully I took some more from different angles.
there's 2 species, the commoner with spot(s), & blank which is trivia arctica. (commoner in wales anyway)
I didnt take it from any other angles, I have but one shot of that one among other shells. I did find a cowrie but I dont think its the same one. I have only ever found a very small number and I dont recall any having marks of any sort on them, just all ivory colour as the one I found this evening. As its not the same one its probably better to post it as a seperate observation.
I'd say the above one is probably Trivia arctica based on not having found any with spots on- as you describe.
Chris I have added another cowrie, I can remember where I found it but the date is a rough guess, I didnt photograph it at the time so I dont have a dated image to refer to. I hope I have the species right, it looks right- had a look on marlin.
yes, without spots it's got to be Arctica
