Leaves

The leaves are distinctive: In nigra they are simple, in scabiosa they are divided, as in your 3rd picture.

Scabiosa Notes

Many thanks, ophrys, a very useful guide. I had prevously assumed the lobed and toothed leaves were the distinguishing features.
