I really like seeing a familiar creature doing something unusual/not often seen.
When I first got interested in birds, I suspect that I was like others inasmuch as I was most excited when I saw a species I'd never seen before. But of course that's something that occurs less and less frequently.
Now, I find I more and more frequently look at what they're DOING as well as what they ARE. I get as much pleasure watching a Moorhen eating a crab apple as I do spotting some distant bird that doesn't belong where it happens to find itself. In fact, I feel rather sorry for these lost rarities, especially if they're birds that ordinarily congregate in groups...
