It looks a bit like a type of knapweed, was this growing wild or in a cultivated garden environment ?

It was growing in a 'wild' area made by Wyre Forest Council
it looks rather like great knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa). Colour rendition of purples by digital cameras can be poor in some conditions (such as approaching sunset) - is the flower colour accurate?
Anyway, it's definitely Centaurea - even with the motion blur you can tell that from the involucral bracts.
