Very large house spider, about 75mm maximum span. I've never seen a bigger one. That's a £1 coin next to it.

I fell prey to the "get recommended" button, and didn't think to check, I'm afraid. No excuse though - I knew there were several spiders loosely called House Spiders. It's become second nature to use the recommended name, but sometimes it bites you. Or, in this case, me.
Pretty big example, isn't it? It made my daughter in law jump, but I've got her sufficiently well trained that, instead of running away, she came and fetched me to look at it!
