Just wondering what makes this Smooth & not Palmate which are very tricky in terrestrial mode. I see those spots under the tail but thought the chin was critical?

Its just the location in this case, I used to add a comment in an ID of a common newt or a common lizard that they were the only species of their kind to be found in Ireland and that they were therefore very easily identified.
If this one was snapped in England, Scotland or Wales then maybe more angles would be necessary to get a sound ID.
A note in the ID would help explain, maybe I should do that in future.
