What bindweed/bryony ?

Observed: 20th September 2012 By: mgtr

We have an old field hedge bordering our garden. In August, we started getting straight runners of this mystery plant coming out from the bottom of the hedge across the ground. They grow straight and fast and attempt to root as in photo. It does not climb or twist like a bindweed. As the hedge is thick and in leaf I cannot find the many ground sources.
It has not happened other years, and I have not seen these straight runners in our surrounding lanes and hedges.

Field Bindweed

Thank-you - We did give it thought with the others. What turns me off a bindweed is that, although it is in a thick hedge, it never tries to climb. I'll leave one runner in the hope that it flowers.
