Not colour (very variable)

Other than time of the year is there anything that would help get to a species level ID.

Well, time of year isn't foolproof. I've found mengei and segmentata in autumn. It's best to examine epigynes / palps under the microscope - although adult males of mengei have longer hairs on tarsi and metatarsi 1.
