How to count the spots

Counting the spots is not so hard. Whether it is a five- or a six-spot burnet, there will be two spots at the base that can appear to blur into each other. The difference is all at the tip of the wing. If there are two spots together in the outer part of the wing, it is a six-spot. If there is just one spot in that area, it's one of the five-spot species.
