Dead Man's fingers X. polymorpha has a short cylindrical stem that attaches the fruit body to the substrate and snaps when bent (unlike Dead Moll's Fingers). It also favours Beech and broad-leaved trees. Dead Moll's Fingers X. longipes are more slender and have a flexible stem. These fungi prefer Sycamore and broad-leaved trees. Kind regards
