Magpie eating tomatoes

Young magpie have their beak into everything, but I very surprise to see one youngster pecking at a crop of tomatoes on our allotments. It was trying the orange or near rippened fruit, making a hole and apparently getting to the inside juice and flesh. Made a lot of damage.
Any views on magpie diet or have seen this behaviour?

Magpies are very adaptable.

Magpies are very adaptable. In Arctic Norway they behave (or did some years ago when I was there) like our Starlings, scavenging anything, so eating the odd tomato does not seem too much out-of-character.
