Reseda sp.

Reseda phyteuma looks very likely. Thanks cicuta58. It seems R.phyteuma is a southern Europe native, introduced to Britain in the 18th century and naturalised in a few localities. It is quite possible that my specimen was introduced via a packet of non-native wild-flower seeds. I have just the one plant in a border of mixed annual flowers.
