Description:

Colony of tallish grass which branched spikes in the corner of a maize field. Bare ground at that location has Artemisia vulgaris, Persicaria maculosa, Juncus bufonius agg., Matricaria recutita, Anagallis arvensis, Gnaphalium uliginosum, Atriplex patula, Chenopodium album, Viola arvensis, Matricaria discoidea, Geranium pusillum, Solanum nigrum, Senecio vulgaris, Capsella bursa-pastoris and Trifolium repens.

Cockspur

This grass seems to be increasing as a crop weed in Cheshire and often persists. The associated species list is fine but for Viola lutea which I presume was V. arvensis.

Yes, it was meant to be Viola arvensis (corrected above); I usually get it right, but I've had to correct the name myself on this before.
