Description:

Caterpillar type creature observed in local park in Reigate, Surrey,found on a persons arm! Anyone know what it might be? Seemed to have a single blue projection on it's 'head'.

The blue spine is actually the tail end rather than the head. It's not a sting or anything to be wary of (although the caterpillar may well be hoping that predators do find it scary!). The caterpillar has quite a dark body colour, which in hawk-moths usually means that it is ready to find somewhere underground to pupate - it's likely to have been a green colour before it arrived at this stage.
