My point of view::

Looking at Phytocoris insignis on British Bugs, then comparing it with Phytocoris varipes, again on B.B., what can be seen to separate these 2 species..? Taking into account what B.B., and Limnoporus have said, (which is, I think a referral to ID by photo, a fact with some species without doubt). here though, in my opinion, there has been an oversight, the overall shape, not mentioned on BB.

Looking at the hemelytra on P. varipes they can be seen to be slightly elliptical, whereas on P. insignis they are distinctively more elliptical. To me this is a significant difference. My on line research has not brought up any reference to sexual dimorphism. So if I am correct, is this a key that will allow these two species to be determined from photos..?

Anon, maybe...

HI Mick, Good points that you

HI Mick,

Good points that you raise and I shall attempt to take photographs from other angles in future, in an attempt for better ID.
