Description:

These two birds flew over our heads towards the open water at the NWT reserve at Hickling Broad in Norfolk, turned and came back. Quite high and the photos are at high magnification. They look for all the world like Sacred Ibis but does anyone know waht they are please ?

Sacred Ibis

They show a dark trailing edge rather than just tips ruling out juv spoonbill. The feathered neck would suggest juvenile birds. I wonder if they bred in the broads? That would not be a good thing.

Sacred Ibis

Re possible breeding:

If this alien invader multiplied and became a threat to native species, we might end up with Defra needing to cull Sacred Ibises - it would be a newspaper editor's dream for a headline.
