I'm no cricket expert, but can we rule out the great green bush cricket? The wings are pretty long, like those of the GGBC and it's difficult to tell if the ovipositor is upturned or downturned.
camerart - do you remember how big it was?
If a mortar joint is around 1cm in thickness, i estimate that would make the Bush Cricket at least 4 or 5cms perhaps more in length which is longer than the Oak Bush-crickets that i am coming across at work.
