common names

The species in family Ichneumonidae are generally referred to as "ichneumon wasps", but there aren't common names for the individual species. They are parasitoids, usually laying their eggs in or on other insects; the ichneumon wasp larva then feeds on the host insect. Many of them lay eggs in the caterpillars of butterflies and moths.
