Friend sent these pics to me.. birds..seen last week at Gunwharf Quay in Portsmouth.
It is one of these plastic kites (not Milvus!) that are tethered in fields sometimes to get rid of pigeons and crows. I think you will find that there is a string between the 'bird' and the pole to the left. Probably to scare gulls from the rooftops.

Thanks for that...I think you are right - kite!...so my friend is either pulling my leg or else hadn't realised they were bird scaring kites :-)
I did suspect a bit of jokery when I saw the post. These kites seem to have become a common sight in the past while. I drove past a 'White-tailed Eagle' and an 'Eleonora's Falcon' (or that was the nearest I could make it) at lunchtime today, and there is a 'Kestrel' not far away.
