Rook

it's an easy mistake to make, as Rook really can make quite a deep croaky sound and it does have something of a wedge shaped tail. It's one of those where you really know it when you see it, though, with Ravens. They are really big, like a Buzzard, and the tail is far more diamond-shaped than this bird's. Wings and tail would all look longer and, of course, it would have a dark face and beak, with a thick and quite long neck.

Whoops!

Should have spotted the grey bill.Think you have summed it up well Ophrys. Will look out for the aerial displays as well, for a defining feature. So all that croak are not Ravens, or frogs for that matter.
