Description:

Having got my Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs right, I'm sticking my neck out on this one. It was with the Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs amongst the willows on the shore of Grafham Water.
It's clearly different from the others.

Damn!

It's pretty dark underneath, isn't it? What gives it away as a RW?

Garden

Garden Warbler is a greyer species with a more rounded crown on its head and a shorter bill. It tends to lumber through the vegetation more, whereas Reed is quite agile, much more rich brown and has a rather peaked crown. If you see the tail, Reed has a gradually rounded, longer tail, unlike the shorter, squared-off tail of Garden.

There is Marsh to consider, but Reed is the common species.
