underside

The underside of colt's foot is grey and rather hairy too, duller leaf, coltsfoot is smaller than butterbar which as said can get rather large and tends to grow in large swathes unlike clotsfoot which is more clump forming.

Checked today

Checked today. Height up to 95cm. Given this, and that the already stated leaf width of 50cm well exceeds the 20cm max for Colts-foot (accoridng to my field guide)it must be Butterbur. Thanks everyone.
