elder poss

Elder was a good shot but the leaves are more distinctly tooth in elder. If it was a large tree the ends of the branches often are turned up in ash. Ash buds are a dark brown/black colour - worth looking at the tree in winter to see its outline.

Good botanising

thanks for that

I'm OK with a mature ash but as a young plant it looked too different!

Much happier with elder when it helpfully has berries on it!

The other thing about Elder is that it has a very distinctive smell. I know because I am always weeding them out!
