I can certainly see the similarity, bugbotherer, but to me the dark patch on the abdomen seems less well pronounced/delineated than the Scarlet Malachite, and there seems to be more red on the sides of the thorax as well. Looks to me more like creaturesnapper's suggestion. Thanks, folks.

Anthocomus

The two species are certainly very similar at first glance (and are fairly closely related), but this is Anthocomus rufus, for the reasons given by John.
