How brilliant are shoveler?

How brilliant are shoveler? The uber-dabbler!

I recall, some years ago, watching two pairs of highly territorial drake shoveler, fighting and ‘chook, chook' chasing each other (in flight!) – they were much more protective of their females than other dabbling ducks, and stayed with the brood even after hatching (compare that to mallard, not the greatest 'male role model' in the animal world).
