Whats size are these holes, where are and what is the habitat?

they were a mixture of a

they were a mixture of a rabbit sized hole to over a foot with lots of 10 cm holes around the entrances that went down an inch or two (possibly digging for worms or latrine holes). the habitat is woodland with a meadow about two hundred metres away and a river the opposite direction about two hundred metres away. also they are at the brow of a very steep hill.

Yes rats have these all over my garden see rats have taken measures to get rid of them!!

Rats

The holes look too exposed to all be rabbit, most likely rat. You could look for droppings around the entrance, both defecate near the entrance but have different droppings.
