If you can identify the leaf then it is probable that the mites in turn could be identified.
I think that it was an oak tree but I can't be entirely sure.
Galls with the characteristics shown here do not occur on oaks. The leaf looks rather like of a Sycamore, in which case the galls would probably be caused by the mite species, Aceria cephalonea.
