lesser or greater

I cannot figure out why this is thought to be lesser burdock rather than greater burdock. unfortunately we cannot see properly the colour of the flowers. The lesser has more purple colour flowers and the greater is more pinkish. The lesser has hollow leaf stalks but we cannot tell this from a picture.

Lesser / greater

If you look at the flowers in image 3 they extend beyond the hooked bracts, in Greater Burdock the flowers do no extend beyond the bracts.

Thank you Chris. I hadnt noticed that. Appreciate those subtle differences.

Flowers

The flower heads would be more "gaping" in A. lappa.
