Yes, I think you are right! I never noticed although I did think, at the time, that the flower looked a bit bigger (more robust) than usual. An aberration you think? Not another hybridisation (other than with G. rivale?
Stace says that more than 5 petals is rare, but possible, so just part of natural variation. It would be interesting to collect seeds and see if the offspring had 6 petals as well.
I could try that - problem is I don't have a garden! Still, I suppose I could find a spot somewhere to sow them. It would be interesting to see what came up. I'll let you know next year!
