Can also see the sharp 'semicircular' turn in the lateral line going above the pectoral fin in high magnification

Clarification

It's very clear from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_plaice (also known as dab in America but Long rough dab in UK) that its lateral line (only very slightly curved) distinguishes it from the ours which has a very curved line. It's also a rare find in the UK.
So it follows that all those that agreed to it meant to agree to Limanda limanda & so would happily switch to it, if they could only be made aware of the mistake.
And as you say, the mistake clearly must have come about due to the former recommended ID given to dab (as H is before L)

Hi Chris, I had access to

Hi Chris,

I had access to this book since making the above post-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Field-Marine-Fishes-Adjacent-Waters/dp/0956204805

It is really good, very informative. As you say, we call H. platessoides ther Long Rough Dab. The book makes this clear.

If people who were mislead by my semi- correct ID at the top could switch agreements it would be very good for this observation, as this fish is undoubtedly Limanda limanda, thank you.

Thanks Chris.

Hi Graham, Thanks for

Hi Graham,

Thanks for agreeing to the revised ID but could you please remove your agreement from the incorrect ID above, it will help to shift the likelihood.

Thanks in advance,

Cathal.

Thats a shame Derek, you

Thats a shame Derek, you would have thought 4 should have overcame 3 but no. Maybe if Peadar swaps his, it will help.

Not enough Curation

I think it's time Admin grasped this problem. Not all experts are right all of the time - how can they be? A post with a second ID from the same author should, by rights, (perhaps) overrule the Expert's view. There might be a need for some caution though, requiring input from the Curator. I know of one EX curator who would have jumped on this 2013!
Admin here are obviously overwhelmed by the general tasks and may not yet have noticed the apparent serious decline in experts' interest.

I had noticed a decline

I had noticed a decline myself Derek, a decline in contributions from gold badged people. On quite a number of observations this means gold badged agreements on inaccurate IDs are proving difficult to deal with. I feel partly responsible here for not remembering Limanda limanda at the time of posting and not noticing Get Recommended was off the money. I hadnt read the binomial Limanda limanda in a long time so I didnt notice the mistake- when I did look up the correct binomial, it rang a bell straight away.
