Description:

Five of the six hoverflies on or beside an eight foot high bramble bush in a small steep woodland clearing fairly high up the hillside. Below the woods is well-drained dense grassland with 2ft high ant mounds. V. pellucens was also here but got little notice..

Hovers

Nice pictures...a shame not to post the Chrysotoxum, at least, as separate sightings. As it is, they will rarely get seen by anyone.

yes, I had thought to put some up separately but was busy trying to get confirmation/critique on my new one (have sent it to dipters info), and of the chryso. here only bicinctum tends to get a species and that's really common. I hunted for four days at the fruit farm for a second inflata but then found this group here all at once
