Can I be rude and ask why you don't think this is L. ovalifolium?
BSBI VC Recorder
Chris, I had originally agreed with the ID of L. vulgare, but that was down to ignorance on my part of how similar L. ovalifolium is. Having looked it up in my book L. vulgare should have hairs on the first-year twigs, while L. ovalifolium is hairless. I can't see any hairs on the twigs in the photo, but I'm not sure whether they would show up or whether it's more of a hand lens thing.
Do you think we should add another identification as just the genus Ligustrum, or is the photo detailed enough to confirm L. ovalifolium?
