Growing from an apple tree (Malus sp.), 8" across and still growing. Upper surface less hairy, more bristly. Had a similar bracket a couple of years ago, and now have the one pictured and a smaller example further up.
How long has my tree got?

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

It could last for years it is serious but with limited decay,if it is not the main trunk you could just remove the area affected.

Thank you for the advice.

The bracket a couple of years ago was on the main trunk; the 2 this year are just on major limbs! I suspect it is all through the tree.

The problem is the tree is supporting one end of my hammock...

I'll just have to wait and see.
