Description:

Observed on a twig on a sycamore tree in the playing fields at Woodhouse Eaves.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Probably Melanelixia glabratula

but immature and I wouldn't name it even to genus for certain without checking the internal tissue gives a vivid but very brief red reaction with bleach. I cannot rule out a Melanohalea.

Thanks so much for your comments, Alan. I'm finding lichens very difficult to pin down to a specific species!!
