Hoverflies and a bee

HI,

Can anyone help with the identification of these hoverflies or point me in the direction of a good hoverfly key/book?

Can anyone confirm whether this is a discoloured carder bee, or something entirely different?

Thanks

Hovers

Really, iSpot works on the basis of a single picture = a single ID.

However, the hovers, in order top to bottom are...

Eristalis intricarius
A Sphaerophoria
Episyrphus balteatus
A Helophilus
an Eristalis

The book for hoverflies is British Hoverflies by Stubbs and Falk...not cheap, but a superb book.

You need to post each one in

You need to post each one in a post of its own, so the ID on the post is unique for each.

Carder bees can get fading on their hair with time, but can't tell for sure from that pic if it is that, could be.
