Description:

This colourful character is in northern France. Unfortunately, it does not appear to be in my Britain and Ireland guide to moths so, much as I thought the striking patterning would make it easy to identify, it isn't. Or, rather, it hasn't been for me.
Any of you moth-aware folks recognize this, please?

Many Thanks

Thanks for that, Robert. Now I should be able to find this and similar species on a European website.

Variation is right!

Now I found it on http://www.leps.it/ I see what you mean about variation.

L. cruentaria also seems to have a somewhat confusing synonym of L. pupurata cf. L. pupuraria. Maybe this is an older name.
