Description:

Bright yellow, slimey cap and stem. Cap size 2-4cm. Conical when young, but becoming flattened with age. Spore print white and spore shape oblong. A few days after these photos were taken they appeared more brown.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Correct name

Hygrocybe acutoconica is the correct current name (replacing H. persistens).

At present, Boertmann ed. 2 is the definitive account, though current DNA work at Kew will result in recognition of further species in the genus - at least some of which have already been suspected from field observations.
