My name is Suzanne Phillips and I am a student of Environmental sciences in London (London School of Economics), working with Sarah West at the University of York.
I am writing my dissertation on the social impact of participation in OPAL projects.
As part of the project I am trying to interview people with different levels of experiences of working with OPAL from doing surveys alone to volunteering regularly, i.e. anyone who participated in OPAL events at least once.
I think that the research would be really interesting as at the moment very little is known on how volunteers experience participation in the project. This is also important to ensure the sustainability of the project next year (when it might not receive funding) but also to improve the program itself.
The interview itself is very simple, just a few questions on your involvement with OPAL projects (i.e. when did you start, in which projects you participated), your motivation to volunteer and whether your involvement changed your view of the environment or your behaviour towards it e.g. being more aware of environmental issues for example.
I am interested in knowing from both people who feel and who do not feel that participation affected them. Overall the interview won’t take longer than 30 minutes and I can call you on your mobile or skype to make it easier.
Also I have now introduced a raffle so that 2 people out of those who accepted to be interviewed will be randomly chosen and will receive Collins Complete Guide on either insects, trees or wild flowers of the UK.I am aiming to interview only about 20 people so there are high chances that you'll be the one receiving the book..!
If you are interested in sharing your experience please drop me an email at email@example.com and we'll arrange a time straightaway.
Thank you for taking time to read this. I am really looking forward to speaking soon.
