Eristalis

Yes, a male. All Syrphidae have the false vein...etc, as you describe. Eristalis have a loop in the long vein reaching towards the wing tip (visible in your picture). pertinax is then the only Eristalis with yellow front and mid tarsi...other species have those dark.
