Moult

A little way into its post-juvenile moult, so showing a mixture of new, red, adult feathers and mottled brown/buff juvenile feathers...some birds are quite confusing at this stage, if you are not used to them!

False Identity

I was guilty of seeing what I wanted to see rather than what was actually in front of me.

Since yellow hammers were around, I was tring to convince myself that it was a younger one of them. It got even worse when I started to think of other wee brown birds with bits of red. However, I couldn't get passed its shape: A robin.

I would not have been able to do this only a couple of months ago. It's largely this website and contributors such as yourself that have brought me on this far. Mind you, I've still a very long way to go :-)
